How to Make Sure You are Keeping Your Dog Safe

Dogs can be fun pets, but they can be little troublemakers at times. And because of that, it can sometimes be difficult to know what you should do in order to ensure that your dog is safe. Here are three things you can do to keep your dog out of danger.

Know Where They Are

When it comes to your pet’s safety, it’s essential to prioritize always knowing where they are. Getting into this habit is the single most important thing you can do to best ensure your pet’s safety.

Be aware of any holes that your dog digs in your yard so that you are able to fill them if they could eventually result in an escape route for your pup. If your kids want to play with the dog, make sure that they understand that you are trusting them with the responsibility to take care of it.

Check Ingredient Labels

It’s important for you to be aware of the different food tolerances that your dog has. Know that your dog is not able to digest foods like chocolate, garlic, raisins, and even yeasty dough. If ingested, your dog could at the very least vomit. At most, your dog could need substantial medical attention.

Additionally, you should be aware of the different medicinal oils and products that can benefit or potentially harm your dog. For instance, CBD is safe for dogs, but THC can cause some major problems.

Have Your Pet Wear a Collar and ID Tags

Despite your best efforts, there may be instances when your dog gets lost. Losing your dog can be such a painful experience for you and for your pet. Having proper identification on your dog can make a big difference in helping your dog come home.

Consider putting a tag on your dog’s collar with their name, your name, and your phone number. Or consider putting your address on the tag. Put whatever information you feel most comfortable with onto the collar in order to best help others return your dog home.

Keeping your dog safe doesn’t have to be overwhelming if you start with these suggestions. Getting into the habit of always knowing where your dog is can be a great place to start. Then, consider your dog’s specific tendencies in order to make the best plan to keep your dog safe.
